What are the legitimate Islamic controls for a couple going out after their marriage contract (aqd qiran) but before the wedding, and is a girl allowed to refuse to do so? If "writing the book" (كتَب الكِتاب) refers to the valid Islamic marriage contract with its pillars and conditions (offer, acceptance, witnesses), then after it, the woman becomes a wife, and what is permissible between spouses becomes permissible for them. However, she is not obligated to allow the husband to consummate the marriage before the delivery of the dowry or the wedding, as a preservation of her honor. It is permissible for them to go out together and be in seclusion. The wife's obedience to her husband should be within what is good, through kind treatment, adorning herself, and fulfilling his needs. As for the difference between "writing the book" and "engagement" (الخِطبة), "writing the book" is the valid Islamic marriage contract, while engagement is merely a promise of marriage.
