Is it permissible to perform the Sunnah of 'adah (customary practice) even if it goes against people's opinions?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The scholars have divided the actions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, into categories: some are legislative, some are customary (jibliyyah), and some are potentially both. His actions related to customs, such as his clothing and hair, are not considered Sunnah to follow unless legislative intent is specifically intended; however, whoever emulates them will be rewarded. It is permissible to perform customary Sunnahs as long as they do not lead to harm or contradict the Sharia. It is preferable to conform to people's customs as long as they do not violate the Sharia. Thus, custom is considered valid unless it contradicts the Sharia.
