How does one who missed the first takbeer of the funeral prayer make it up?
Whoever joins the Imam in the funeral prayer having missed some of the takbirat, should join him, say the takbir, and recite Al-Fatihah. When the Imam says the second takbira, he should invoke blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then, he should make up for what he missed after the Imam’s taslim. What he caught up with the Imam is considered the beginning of his prayer, and what he makes up is its end. So, if he joins the Imam at the third takbira, he should say the takbir and recite Al-Fatihah. If the Imam says the fourth takbira, he should say the takbir after him and invoke blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him). When the Imam says the taslim, the follower should say the takbir and offer a brief supplication for the deceased, then say the fourth takbir and say the taslim.
