Will the memorizer of the Qur'an be equal to the non-memorizer in punishment on the Day of Judgment if they commit the same sin?
The sin of a Hafiz of the Qur'an and a scholar of it is more severe than the sin of one who is not a Hafiz or a scholar when they violate the Qur'an, because the sin of a scholar is more severe than the sin of an ignorant person. The people who will receive the most severe punishment on the Day of Resurrection are scholars whom Allah did not benefit through their knowledge. Allah has given a bad example for those who know but do not act, for He Almighty said: (The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah and then did not uphold it is like that of a donkey carrying volumes [of books]). Therefore, he must strive to memorize the Qur'an and act upon it, and be among those who say, "We hear and we obey."
