Why does a Muslim prostrate twice and bow once?
Allah has obligated prayer upon His servants, and Gabriel taught the Prophet, peace be upon him, its manner. The Prophet, peace be upon him, commanded Muslims to pray as they saw him pray. The wisdom behind repeating prostration in every rak'ah is that it is the most profound form of humility before Allah. After standing and bowing, and then prostrating, the worshipper reaches the highest degree of submission. Then, he sits and prostrates again in gratitude to Allah for granting him success in worship and for delivering him from the whispers of Satan.
