Is zakat valid if given to the deserving individual without informing him that it is zakat, for fear that he might not accept it?

If you paid your zakat to its rightful recipient with the intention of it being zakat, then your zakat is valid and accepted, Allah willing, and you are not required to inform him that it is zakat.
