Did the Prophet (peace be upon him) perform ablution for every prayer?

It is preferable to renew the ablution (wudu') for every prayer, and this was the predominant practice of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as he used to perform wudu' for every prayer. On the Day of Conquest, he intentionally prayed several prayers with a single wudu', and he said: "Were it not that I would overburden my nation, I would have commanded them to perform wudu' for every prayer."
