What is the ruling on the funeral prayer if the Imam makes five takbeers instead of four?

The fact that the funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) has four takbirat (recitations of "Allahu Akbar") is the view of the majority of scholars among the Companions and those who came after them. This was also the last practice of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him; indeed, the Prophet, peace be upon him, adhered to four takbirat until Allah took his soul. Some scholars hold the view that the takbirat are five. Nevertheless, if the Imam increases the takbirat beyond four, he has gone against the majority, but he should still be followed, based on the Prophet's saying, peace be upon him: "Indeed, the Imam is appointed to be followed."
