A Muslim must learn what makes his worship and dealings valid, as this is an individual obligation upon him. Then, he is required to strive diligently in acquiring sufficient knowledge along with inviting people to Allah, and what this entails of being aware of people's situations and understanding their reality. This should be done with balance and moderation. A young person's preoccupation with political events while showing weak interest in memorizing the Quran and acquiring knowledge is a clear error and shortcoming. There are many da'wah (Islamic propagation) websites, some beneficial and some less so, and one can ask trustworthy scholars about them.
