Is the marriage contract valid if the woman initiates the contract by saying to the suitor: "I marry myself to you," in the presence of her guardian and with his permission, and two just witnesses, and with the completion of offer and acceptance?

The majority of scholars hold that a woman should not directly conclude her marriage contract herself, whether her guardian has given permission or not. Rather, the guardian should directly conclude the marriage contract himself or appoint a man as his representative, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "There is no marriage without a guardian," and his saying: "A woman may not marry off another woman, nor may she marry herself off." If the contract is concluded without a guardian, it is invalid and must be redone.
