Is paying the installments for a residential unit, with an annual interest rate calculated on them, unlawful (haram)?
Usurious interest is impermissible to take or to give. It is stated in the Hadith: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) cursed the one who consumes Riba, the one who feeds it, its scribe, and its two witnesses, and he said: 'They are all alike.'" If the subscriber pays usurious interest, that is forbidden. If he takes it on his deposit, then a current account must be opened from which no interest accrues. Otherwise, the interest must be spent on charitable causes and general Muslim welfare, without owning it.
