What is the ruling on one who misses congregational prayer in the mosque due to severe exhaustion and fatigue?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever abandons congregational prayer sins and deprives himself of a great good. It has been reported that the blind man who could not find a guide to lead him to the mosque was not given permission by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to abandon the congregation as long as he could hear the call to prayer. And it was reported, "Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not come, there is no prayer for him except for one with an excuse."

Severe fatigue that causes hardship in going to the congregation is considered an excuse for abandoning it, due to the Almighty's saying: ﴿Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity﴾. However, attending the congregation and enduring hardship is more preferable, for the sick man used to be brought, being supported between two men until he was placed in the row.
