What is the ruling on celebrating the birth of the Prophet, peace be upon him?

"Allah the Almighty says: {Say, [O Muhammad], ""If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.}. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ""Whoever introduces into this matter of ours something that is not from it, it is rejected."" And in Muslim's narration: ""Whoever does a deed that is not in accordance with our matter, it is rejected."" And Muslim narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ""Indeed, the best of speech is the Book of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the worst of matters are newly invented ones, and every innovation is misguidance."" Nothing of this has been authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, nor from the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and if it were good, they would have preceded us to it. And for the sake of preserving the Sunnah and acting upon the Book, Muslims should not introduce matters that are not in the Book of Allah or in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah. And it is not permissible for any Muslim to promote innovation or act upon it. This is what the predecessors of the nation adhered to and what the diligent scholars affirmed.
