What are the seven ahruf of the Qur’an, and how do we learn ten qira’at instead of seven ahruf? Why do students differ between Qalun and Warsh, and why are there ten qira’at instead of seven?

Authentic hadiths have established that the Qur’an was revealed in seven ahruf (modes/readings). The reason for the differences among narrators and reciters stems from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, having taught the Companions with different ahruf. The Companions, in turn, dispersed throughout various lands and taught what they had learned from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Then, the Tabi’un (successors) learned from them, and the Tabi’ al-Tabi’in (successors of the successors) learned from the Tabi’un, and so on, until the matter reached the Imams of recitation who codified these readings. This variation in readings is due to minor differences within the scope of the seven ahruf in which the Noble Qur’an was revealed.
