Is the annual interest resulting from a sum of money deposited in a bank considered usury (ribā)? Is the principal amount suspected of being usury? Is it permissible to perform Hajj with this money?
Whoever deposits their money in a usurious bank commits a sin. The interest they receive is unlawful and must be disposed of by spending it on the welfare of Muslims. As for the principal amount deposited, it does not become unlawful merely by being placed in the bank. However, its owner commits a sin for depositing it there due to their cooperation in sin. There is no objection to performing Hajj from this principal amount, but it must be withdrawn from the bank, and the usurious transaction must be terminated; otherwise, they remain sinful and cooperative in wrongdoing.
