What is the ruling on music with instruments that is neither immoral nor religious, and is there any explicit text prohibiting it in the Qur’an or Sunnah?

Singing is of different types, and each type has its own ruling:

1. Singing accompanied by musical instruments and amusement: Listening to it is unanimously forbidden for both men and women. Texts from the Quran and Sunnah have indicated its prohibition. The drum is an exception for women at weddings and during Eid, provided certain conditions are met.

2. Singing without instruments:

A woman singing to men: This is undoubtedly forbidden. However, her singing to women with good words on an occasion like a wedding is permissible.

A man singing:

If the words are good, inviting to virtue and goodness, some scholars have permitted it while others have disliked it. The correct view is the permissibility of that which is beneficial, without excess.

If the words are vulgar, inviting to vice, or describing forbidden things, then it is prohibited.
