Has the person from whom I took money without his knowledge to pay off a debt on a piece of land become a partner in this land, and does he have a right to it? And if I seek his absolution for the money and inform him of what I did, do I give him only the money I took, or his money plus a portion of the land's profit?
You are obligated to repent to Allah for disposing of your brother's property without his permission. Therefore, returning the money you took from him is obligatory; you are responsible for it, and this money is a debt upon you that must be returned immediately, whether you sell the land or not.
