What are the seven things or places where it is not permissible to give the greeting of "peace" (Salam)?

The situations in which giving or returning greetings (Salām) is not prescribed are a matter of scholarly disagreement, potentially exceeding twenty cases. These include not greeting someone who is praying, eating, drinking, reciting (Qur'an), remembering Allah (dhākir), delivering a sermon (khatīb), performing the talbiyah (during Hajj/Umrah), relieving himself, engaged in judicial work, calling the adhan, performing the iqamah, or someone in the bathroom, or during intercourse. It is also disliked to greet a young woman for fear of temptation, as well as a child, an intoxicated person, an insane person, a wicked person, someone who is sleeping, or someone who is dozing. While some of these cases are explicitly mentioned in texts, scholars have analogized the remaining ones to them. Therefore, whoever offers greetings in a situation where it is not recommended to do so is not entitled to a response.
