What is the ruling on consuming meat and sweets offered in luxurious or tourist hotels in Egypt, given the ignorance of the type of slaughter and the ingredients of the food provided, such as kofta sandwiches and luncheon meat?

The basic principle regarding a Muslim's food is that it is permissible, and there is no need to inquire about its permissibility. If we eat the food of a People of the Book without asking, then a Muslim's food is even more deserving of being considered permissible. This is supported by the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), where some people asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about meat, not knowing whether Allah's name had been mentioned over it or not. He said: "Say Bismillah yourselves and eat." These people had recently embraced Islam. This hadith indicates that the basic principle concerning a Muslim's action is soundness and validity. If we were burdened with investigating the method of slaughter and the mention of Allah's name, we would fall into hardship. The food of the People of the Book is lawful for us, as Allah Almighty says: {And the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you}. Therefore, it is permissible to eat from food and sweets unless one is certain of their prohibition, with the caveat that it is not permissible to remain in places where sins are committed, except out of necessity.
