Some jurists stated that the rows in the funeral prayer are equal in virtue, so that people do not compete for the first row and miss the virtue of having three rows of worshippers for the deceased. Others held that the last row is superior as an expression of humility, which is hoped to lead to the acceptance of their intercession for the deceased.
