What are the evidences of the jurisprudential schools of thought that they used to justify the wiping of part of the head in ablution?
Scholars differed concerning the sufficient amount for wiping the head in ablution. Malik was of the opinion that wiping the entire head is obligatory, while Shafi'i, some of Malik's companions, and Abu Hanifa held that wiping part of the head is permissible. The origin of this difference goes back to the ambiguity of the letter 'baa' (ب) in the Arabic language. Those who considered it superfluous mandated wiping the entire head, while those who considered it indicative of partiality mandated wiping part of it. Those who permitted wiping part of the head cited the hadith of Mughira: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over his forelock and turban."
