What is the ruling regarding divorcing one's wife by uttering "thrice" in a state of extreme anger via mobile phone, using a non-Arabic phrase?
Divorce via mobile phone is valid. Divorce in a language other than Arabic is also valid if the wording is explicit, or implicit with the intention [of divorce]. If you understood what I said, and you divorced her three times, either with an explicit wording or an implicit wording accompanied by the intention [of divorce], then your wife becomes unlawful for you according to the majority of scholars. She does not become lawful for you again until she marries another man and he divorces her after consummating the marriage. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah is of the view that it counts as a single divorce, and you are permitted to take her back as long as you had not divorced her twice before.
