What is the standing and reward with Allah for individual charitable work aimed at helping the needy, and what is the best way to reconcile this work with familial obligations?

We ask God to reward the questioner for helping those in need, and this is a noble deed. However, he should balance it with his wife's rights upon him. As much as possible, it is better for the husband to be at home, bringing joy and companionship to his family, especially given his absence from her during his working hours. Being kind to her is among the acts of devotion and good deeds. He can also seek a way to combine caring for the needy with not being absent from his family for long periods, such as by enlisting volunteers to take turns with him. Otherwise, it is known that he is not obligated to be constantly at home; rather, he has the right to travel and be absent from his wife for six months or less without her consent.
