Does the narration of a reliable (thiqah) narrator from an unknown (majhūl) narrator constitute a modification of him?

Ignorance is of two types: ignorance of the person's identity (jahaalat al-'ayn) and ignorance of their condition (jahaalat al-haal).

Ignorance of the person's identity is removed by the narration of two or more well-known narrators, and the narration of a single trustworthy person is not sufficient. This is the view of the majority and has been reported as a consensus.

As for ignorance of the condition: It is apparent that the mere narration of a trustworthy person from an unknown narrator does not count as attesting to their uprightness unless their uprightness is explicitly declared. This is the view of the majority.
