What is Islam's view on suicide, how does it relate to divine decree and destiny, and what are its effects and causes in society?

Suicide is one of the greatest major sins and most heinous crimes. Among its evil consequences are: the loss of an individual from society, which results in the widowing of women and the orphaning of children, and the ease with which those of weak minds can be influenced by it, contributing to the spread of this phenomenon. As for its causes, the most important are: ignorance, weakness of faith, lack of trust in God Almighty's promise, reliance on Him, and certainty in Him, and disregard for the severe warning against disobeying His command.
