Are we sinning if we compel our ill mother to undergo a necessary surgical operation to save her life, despite her refusal and preference to die in her home, after we have exhausted all efforts to persuade her and found no alternative?

It is recommended to persuade the mother to undergo medical treatment and surgery, explaining that this is among what Allah has commanded, and that she should rely on Allah and not fear its consequences. If she insists on refusing, she should not be forced, as jurists have disliked compelling a patient to take medicine. However, if it is highly probable that she would perish by abandoning the surgery, then it is permissible to perform it against her will.
