Is it permissible to pray on the lower level while the Imam is on the upper roof of the mosque?

It is disliked by most scholars for the Imam to be in a higher place than the congregants, due to what was narrated from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "If a man leads people in prayer, he should not stand in a place higher than their standing place." The prayer is valid in this situation. However, it is permissible for the Imam to be elevated above the congregants out of necessity, such as for teaching, as it is established that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stood on the minbar.
