What is the ruling on one who intends to go to Medina to pray in the Prophet's Mosque with the intention of visiting the Prophet's grave (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)?

For someone who is near Medina and does not need to travel, there is no harm in visiting the Prophet (peace be upon him). As for the traveler to Medina, if their primary intention is to visit the Prophet's Mosque for prayer, then their love for visiting the grave as a secondary purpose does not harm them. However, if their intention is solely to visit the grave, then this is not permissible according to the majority of scholars, and it is unlikely to occur from someone who knows the virtue of praying in the Prophet's Mosque. A scholar of Islamic law knows that traveling to his mosque is recommended for prayer therein, not for the sake of the grave, and thus their intention in traveling is for the mosque.
