What is the ruling on one who made a covenant with Allah and a woman to marry her despite financial obstacles?
It is not permissible for a man to correspond with or talk to a non-mahram woman except out of necessity and to the extent of that necessity, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have not left behind me any fitnah (trial or tribulation) more harmful to men than women." It is not permissible to talk to a woman about love and marriage, and the questioner must repent and seek forgiveness. If he wishes to marry her, he should propose to her through the proper religious channels; otherwise, he should dismiss the idea. He is not obligated to fulfill his promise of marriage to her as long as he is unable to do so.
