What is the ruling on eating food that a soldier brought to his family from the barracks, claiming that its owner, who works in the restaurant, gave it to him?

If the food brought by the soldier is taken with the permission of the responsible authority, then it is lawful for him to eat from it and to give to others. However, if he took it illicitly, then it is not permissible for him to eat from it or to dispose of it, as it falls under consuming people's wealth unlawfully, according to the Almighty's saying: "And do not consume your properties among yourselves through falsehood." It is forbidden for others to eat from it if they know of the illicit taking, and if one is in doubt, then piety dictates leaving it, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, what is lawful is clear, and what is unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters."
