Caring for and looking after the mother, if she is in need, is obligatory upon her children, but not upon the son's wife. The son's wife does not incur sin if she declines. Her daughter and son are obligated to care for their mother. The husband is not permitted to compel his wife to do so. He is also not permitted to disobey his father in moving his mother to another country. It is not permissible for his mother to agree to this as long as her husband is not pleased. It is not permissible for a wife to leave her husband's home except with his permission, unless she is harmed. The wife is advised to be kind to her husband's mother and help her as much as she can if she lives with her. She must obey her husband by moving to the accommodation he provides for her if she is not harmed.
