What is the ruling on competitions that offer a prize of one thousand riyals, only for the winner to discover that it is one thousand Yemeni riyals, especially since those in charge of them are religiously committed individuals, which tarnishes the reputation of Islam?

A Muslim must be truthful and trustworthy. Those organizing competitions must clarify the nature of the prizes and not deceive people. If a contract mentions currency but does not specify its type, it should refer to the prevailing currency in the country. Thus, if the prevailing currency is the Saudi Riyal, it is not permissible to exchange it for the less valuable Yemeni Riyal unless with the winner's permission. Beneficial competitions in Islamic sciences and generally beneficial competitions are permissible, provided that the participant does not pay money for participation.
