Is it forbidden to work at a gas station that sells alcohol, provided that one's tasks are unrelated to alcohol, and is the money earned from this work unlawful? What is the ruling on friends working in stores that sell alcohol or deal in lottery tickets, and sometimes being compelled to carry alcohol?
If your work at the station is separate from what is unlawful, and limited to repairing and cleaning cars, and filling permissible soft drinks, then there is no harm in working there, and your salary is lawful. As for the work of your friends in shops that sell alcohol or pork, or deal in usury or gambling, it is not permissible because they are directly involved in unlawful acts or assist in them. What they earn is ill-gotten gain, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever's flesh grows from unlawful gain, the Fire is more befitting for him." Emigration and residence in countries where it is not possible to preserve one's religion are not permissible except out of necessity or urgent need.
