What is the ruling on one who delays Fajr prayer unintentionally, in that he woke up a few minutes before its time expired or after it had expired, despite his intention to perform it on time? And is he considered among those who delay prayer?
The Fajr prayer requires special attention and care. It has been mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, and some scholars believe it to be the Middle Prayer (Salat al-Wusta). There should be an internal alarm (fear and hope) in addition to the external alarm. The alarm can be placed far away to compel oneself to get up, and upon waking, one should remember Allah. If you have taken the necessary means but sleep has overcome you, then there is no blame upon you.
