What is the ruling on discharges mixed with black or dark red blood, which exit after urinating or defecating, with menstruation having stopped for a long time?

The general rule is that discharge mixed with blood is considered menstruation as long as it occurs within a timeframe when it can be menstruation. The condition for this, according to the majority of scholars, is that the duration of this blood flow reaches one day and one night without any intervening period of purity. If it stops before this duration, it is considered dysfunctional bleeding and does not necessitate ghusl (ritual bath). However, if the cessation is only in its flow, but the area remains stained with blood, and this continues for one day and one night or more, then it is menstruation. According to the Malikis, there is no minimum limit for menstruation; it can be a single discharge, and it is considered menstruation if seen, and ghusl becomes obligatory when it stops. The appearance of blood after urination or defecation does not affect the ruling; the consideration is given to the blood itself. The fatwa (religious edict) is based on the opinion of the majority of scholars, but the Maliki school of thought is more cautious, especially if the discharge is mixed with blood that has the characteristics of menstrual blood.
