Is it permissible for the Imam to shorten the prostration in response to the request of a sick worshipper, despite his fear that this might lead to "Naqr" (pecking) in prayer?
Moderation and temperance in all matters are good. It is obligatory for the Imam to be tranquil in his prayer and not to neglect any of its pillars. He should also consider the condition of the congregants and emulate the weakest among them. What is considered moderation is what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded his Companions who led their people in prayer. Scholars have mentioned that the Imam should not exceed three glorifications (tasbeehat) in bowing (ruku') and prostration (sujood), which is the minimum level of the recommended perfection. If the Imam adheres to this, he should not shorten it further, and he should be gentle with those who object.
