Is it permissible for children to take money exceeding their known needs from their wealthy, non-stingy father, without his knowledge? What is the ruling on the surplus money that was taken previously, and must it be returned? How can it be returned if the children do not possess the money and are unable to inform the father?

It is not permissible for a son to take from his father's money without his permission. This is considered theft and an encroachment on property, unless the father is negligent in providing the obligatory maintenance for his son, in which case the son may take what is customary and reasonable.

Whatever the son takes with his father's permission to buy a specific item must be spent on that item only. He is not allowed to take an extra amount or save it for himself. If he does so, the extra amount is considered a debt upon him that he must return to his father or seek his forgiveness.

If the father gives his son money without specifying its purpose, the son can own it and use it to pay off his debt to his father.
