What is the ruling concerning a security officer who kills one of the parties involved in a fight between two families while intervening, and what is the ruling concerning the other party in this situation?

Killing is of three types: intentional, semi-intentional, and accidental. The ruling for a security officer regarding killing does not differ from that of others. As for quarreling families, if each one is acting based on an interpretation (ta’weel) in their fight against the other, then the bloodshed is in vain (hadr). If one of them is the aggressor, then the blood of the aggressor is in vain (hadr), and the blood of the wronged is subject to retribution (qisas). It was said that if the wronged could have avoided fighting by referring the matter to the authorities but did not do so, then the blood money (diyah) is incumbent upon them.
