If someone swears that a gathering will not include them and a specific person, they have broken their oath if they do meet with that person in the intended manner. The way to avoid the occurrence of a suspended divorce here is for the swearer not to meet with that person, and a way to reconcile them can be sought without them meeting. If they do meet in one gathering, the divorce becomes effective according to the majority of scholars, including the four Madhhabs, in contrast to Ibn Taymiyyah and those who agreed with him, who held that an expiation for an oath is due if divorce was not intended. The preponderant view is that of the majority.
