Is giving money to the poor and to mosques with the intention of fulfilling worldly desires and averting fear, and by proxy through a mother who does not herself disburse these funds, considered a valid and acceptable act, and does it count as Zakat?

Charity has a profound effect in repelling misfortune and bringing about good, even if it comes from a wicked person or a disbeliever. Giving charity with the intention of bringing good and repelling evil is a legitimate and sound act, although it is better for it to be given with the intention of drawing closer to Allah, so that it may bring about the good of both this world and the Hereafter.
