Is it permissible to fast on March 22nd of every year with the intention of thanking Allah for quitting smoking on that day?

Praise be to Allah for your repentance from sin. You should thank Allah by persevering in obedience. Designating a specific day for repentance by fasting every year is not legislated, because designating a day for an act of worship that the Lawgiver did not specify is considered an innovation (bid'ah). It has not been narrated that the Companions designated the day of their conversion to Islam or their repentance by fasting. It is disliked to designate a day or a night for an act of worship that the Lawgiver did not specify.
