What is the ruling on one who intentionally inhales the smell of food while fasting?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

There is no harm for the fasting person in smelling pleasant odors from food or otherwise. However, it is not permissible to inhale food steam or incense if it reaches the throat, because it has a substance that can reach the stomach. If it reaches without inhalation, then no قضآء (making up the fast) is required.
