Is saying "in God's hands" upon leaving the house or going to sleep an innovation (bid'ah) or permissible?

There is no legitimate (shar‘i) supplication with this wording. However, supplicating with wording that has not been reported and does not contain a legal prohibition is not considered an innovation (bid‘ah), as long as the supplicant does not believe in its legitimacy or special merit.
