Is it correct to decisively deem sinful one who leaves congregational prayer?

Scholars differ regarding the ruling on congregational prayer. According to those who consider it obligatory, whoever abandons it without a valid excuse commits a sin, even though their prayer is valid. The Hanbalis stated that the prayer of one who prays alone without an excuse is valid, but they incur sin. Ibn Qasim al-Hanbali mentioned that whoever misses an obligatory congregational prayer should pray alone, and their prayer is valid, though they incur sin.
