Is it permissible to change the intention, after paying a sum of money to settle a contractor's dues from private funds, to an intention of charity or fulfilling a vow?

It is not permissible to change the intention to fulfill a vow, because the performance of every obligatory act requires a specific intention to be present at its beginning. This is unlike fasting, Zakat, and expiation.
