How can children please Allah despite the harshness of their father who hurt them, expelled their mother, and displayed unacceptable behaviors, knowing that they neither love nor respect him because of what he did to them?

A father has a responsibility towards his children, and children have rights over their parents. Conversely, parents have rights over their children, which include filial piety, kindness, and obedience in what is right. It is not permissible for a son to hate his father due to his wrong actions; rather, one must be careful not to abuse him. The father’s right to filial piety is not forfeited by his misdeeds. Instead, one must show him filial piety, be kind to him, strive for his guidance, and advise him with gentleness. A father is not obligated to provide his daughter with a dowry or prepare her for marriage, but it is recommended to help her if custom dictates it.
