What is the interpretation of "And follow the best of what has been revealed to you from your Lord, before the torment comes to you suddenly while you perceive not" (Az-Zumar: 55), and what is the meaning of "the best of what has been revealed" in it? And can the Sunnah ever be equal to the Holy Qur'an?

Firstly: Following the best of what Allah has revealed means obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. This includes the commands and prohibitions found in the Quran and the Sunnah, as Allah Almighty says: (And follow the best of what has been sent down to you from your Lord).

Secondly: This following is not complete except by following the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, because his Sunnah is a clarification of what Allah has revealed. Allah has commanded obedience to him in many verses, such as His saying: (Say, "Obey Allah and the Messenger").

Thirdly: The Sunnah is a revelation sent down from Allah, and the obligation to obey it is established just as the obedience to the Quran is established, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: (Indeed, I have been given the Book and something similar to it with it). It differs from the Quran in that its recitation is not an act of worship in prayer, its wording is from the Messenger, and it is not forbidden for one in a state of minor ritual impurity to touch it.
