What is your guidance regarding a man who was religiously committed, praying and fasting, then turned to drinking alcohol and insulting the Divine Being, knowing that he is the husband of my daughter, with whom he had a child?

The apostasy of a young man from guidance is a grave matter. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sought refuge from reverting after having progressed, and the righteous supplicated to their Lord not to let their hearts deviate after having been guided. A Muslim must strive to keep their heart firm in faith. As for the wife of the apostate young man, it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to remain married to a disbeliever. If he repents after the waiting period ('iddah), it is permissible for him to marry her with a new contract, as this is more cautious and avoids scholarly dispute. However, if he repents while she is still in her 'iddah, she remains his wife.
