What is the ruling on one who responds to a sneezer with "Alhamdulillah" instead of "Yarhamukallah"?
What is reported in the Sunnah is that the sneezer says: "Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah)." And whoever hears him says to him: "Yarhamukallah (May Allah have mercy on you)." Then the sneezer says: "Yahdikumullah wa yuslihu balakum (May Allah guide you and rectify your affairs)." Therefore, responding to the sneezer with "Alhamdulillah" is incorrect.
