Can the zakat on gold be given to needy parents?

It is not permissible to give zakat on gold or any other type of zakat to poor parents, because their maintenance is obligatory upon the child. Giving them zakat would protect the child's wealth from decreasing due to the obligatory maintenance he must provide them. The same applies to children and a wife whose upkeep is incumbent upon the zakat-payer due to their poverty.
